What does a Physical Therapist do?
Physical therapy focuses on improving muscle (soft tissue) flexibility and strength, joint biomechanics (movement), and proprioception (positional awareness), resulting in increased balance, coordination, kinesthetic awareness, and improved posture. Physical therapy reduces pain and dysfunction by correcting postural and muscle imbalances, eliminating muscle spasms, trigger points, and fibrous tissue adhesions. These all can be achieved through a specific sequence of exercises, manual therapy, and modalities individualized for each patient and their unique condition. Our physical therapists develop individual treatment plans for each patient’s condition.
Occupational Therapy (OT)
What is Occupational Therapy and what do Occupational Therapists do?
Occupational therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages who need specialized assistance to lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives due to physical, developmental, social, or emotional problems. Occupational therapists use the "occupations" of self-care, work, and play/leisure activities to increase independence, enhance development, and/or prevent disability. To achieve these goals occupational therapists may also adapt the task or the environment.
What are the benefits of Acupuncture?
A growing body of evidence-based clinical research is discovering how the body responds to acupuncture and its benefits for a wide range of common health conditions. Many people receive acupuncture to relieve specific aches and pains, such as osteoarthritis of the knee, TMJ, headaches and low back pain, or for common health problems such as allergies, sinus infections and fibromyalgia. Other people choose acupuncture when they can feel their bodily functions are out of balance, but they have no obvious diagnosis. Many people have regular treatments because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.
Class 4 K-Laser Therapy
What is Class 4 K-Laser Therapy used for?
Class 4 K-Laser therapy treatment helps reduce pain and inflammation and enhances tissue healing—both in hard and soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, and even bones. It increases oxygenation of tissues and allows injured or damaged cells to absorb photons of light, which speeds healing. K-Laser therapy can be effectively combined with a number of other treatment modalitiesLaser therapy can be helpful for acute injuries, such as: strains, sprains, and shoulder injuries; repetitive-use injuries such as: carpal tunnel syndrome; traumatic injuries, and chronic issues such as:
frozen shoulder and arthritis.
Can Decompression Therapy help me?
Axial Spinal Decompression (also known as DTS) is an advanced form of non-surgical disc repair used for conditions such as: (herniations/tears), facet arthrosis and calcification (spinal arthritis, lipping and spurring); and radicular neuropathy symptoms (numbness, tingling and burning).
Spinal Decompression has been used in the treatment of thousands of patients who before were looking only at surgical intervention as their only form of pain relief. Now under conservative decompression therapy, people suffering with pain and radiculopathies associated with these conditions can now be treated without surgery. This means little or no loss of time or wage from work, no nasty surgical scarring or post rehabilitative therapy and quicker recovery back to activities of daily life.
How can Yoga Therapy help me?
Yoga therapy tailors a range of mind/body practices including yoga postures and stetching, breathing exercises, deep relaxation techniques, and meditation instruction to people with health and wellness challenges. Through its holistic approach, yoga therapy helps to promote optimal wellness and health by bringing enhanced awareness and better balance to mind, body, and breath and has been successful in helping to ease many conditions including muscle and joint pain, posture and balance challenges, high blood pressure, sciatica, as well as anxiety and stress, to name a few. Sessions are most effective in small groups or private sessions in order to customize the sessions to address the specific needs and goals of the client(s) and provide the individualized attention that is not possible in a large class setting. Yoga Therapy can be a beneficial compliment to traditional medical treatments.
Why choose our Massage Therapist?
Our Certified, Licensed Massage Therapist has extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology, as well as experience in multiple pain relieving techniques. Under the direction of a supervised physician, our Therapist provides targeted therapeutic treatments to help relieve muscle pain and tension faster. Massage Therapy is a synergistic complement to Chiropractic adjustments. This means our patients get the highest level of care.
What does massage actually do? And why do you need it?
Massage Therapy is excellent for reducing restrictions in soft tissue (muscle, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue call fascia) that cause pain. A Therapeutic Massage session releases tension and spasm from muscles, increases blood circulation, promotes lymph drainage, decreases scar tissue and adhesions, and aides in muscle and connective tissue reconstruction and healing. Massage Therapy is also very soothing to the nervous system and is a great tool for reducing stress and tension, which often contribute to pain.
When combined with Chiropractic adjustments, Massage Therapy can result in faster healing from injury and quicker reduction of pain, as well as helping you stay in alignment longer after a chiropractic adjustment.
Our Licensed Massage Therapist is specially trained in the following forms of therapy: Myofascial Release, Swedish Massage [which includes effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), and friction (cross fiber or with the fibers)], Soft Tissue Release, and Neuromuscular Therapy (trigger point therapy).
Massage therapy sessions with Denise Trimble, LMT include the added benefits of receiving your treatment on a VibroAcoustic Sound Therapy Table. VibroAcoustic Therapy (VAT) frequencies are chosen for their therapeutic effect, and are played through the sound transducers that are embedded in the massage table. Tones and music gently “massage” the body right down to the cellular level. VAT is deeply soothing and relaxing and can be beneficial for many painful and degenerative conditions and is an excellent complement to Massage Therapy treatments.
At Comprehensive Health Physical Rehab & Chiropractic Center, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we
use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Metuchen chiropractic clinic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
